Melbourne:a review

THE FOOD:
Okay, besides the scary "Malaysian" restaurant, the food was pretty good. The trick is to get people who actually live in Melbourne to pick the restaurant. There's a really great place in Chinatown called the Red Ant (or Red Ants, I forget). It has tea leaf duck and awesome salted egg prawns. Two thumbs up.
We also ate at Mekong, where it is reported that (Former) President Bill Clinton had TWO bowls. Two thumbs up.
The 24-hr Hungry Jack's/Burger King near David Jones put too much onion in my Whopper Jr. One thumb down.
The ice-cream place at Crown Casino gives really big scoops. Two thumbs up.

THE SHOPPING:
They've renovated the old Daimaru into Melbourne Central and now it rocks. Smith St was pretty good. There was one shop where the owner went nuts. She said "I had such a great lunch! Okay, now everything in the shop is $10". Works for me.

THE ARTS:
There's a piece of artwork on nearly every city corner. I like this.

THE CRAFTS:
There are bead shops everywhere. I did find yarn shops, but there wasn't anything that I couldn't get in Sydney or from my beloved internet. Nothing that was significantly cheaper anyway.

THE WEATHER:
It's SPRING, but the weather was very Wintry. The air was chilly, and there was sporadic rain. Sydney is obviously superior in this respect.

THE YARRA:
The Yarra river is quite ugly and unimpressive compared to Sydney Harbour. Sydney rocks.

THE PLANE:
Virgin is excellent. The flight only took an hour. Dad says this is because the tickets are cheap, so the pilots have to fly FAST. I don't think this is quite right, but oh well.
